Beautiful outdoor wedding near Barcelona

Several years ago I had the luck to assist a wedding at the beautiful Castell de Tous in Sant Martí de Tous. The 1000 year old castle has been beautifully renovated and is exclusively used for weddings and events. It's one of those places that you dream of when imagining getting married in Barcelona.

The wedding venue is located about an hour's drive from Barcelona, in a small town, surrounded by beautiful nature. When I arrived at the location, as always, as always, I began by taking pictures of the venue and the ceremony place.

Soon afterwards, the bride arrived. Both the bride and the groom were a lovely couple from the United States. They were relaxed, genuine, and truly enjoying one of the most beautiful days of their lives with their loved ones. It was really a pleasure and an honor to be their wedding photographer for this very special day - thank you both again.

The bride started her getting ready in one of the nice old rooms of the castle. Let's have a look at the getting ready:

Wedding images of the brides details

As a wedding photographer, I always try to capture all kinds of pictures. Candid ones, while the wedding couple interacts with friends and family, but also beautiful shots of the wedding details like the bouquet and the dress. I usually try to play with the natural light. Luckily, we had a sunny day and the sun shone into the room just beautifully so I could get some nice pictures of the wedding details.

Next on was the getting ready of the groom. As we did not have a lot of time, we did a short getting ready, without taking separate detail shots.

After the getting ready of the bride and the groom, they had their first look. We did the first look in the old yard of the castle. That way, we had a different location, good light, and privacy from arriving guests. I usually place the groom somewhere nice and let him stand with his eyes closed. Then, the bride approaches from behind and places her hand on his shoulder. At this moment, the groom slowly turns around, and when they see each other for the first time, the magic happens :)

After the first look I usually do some couple photos with the bride and the groom. We first started in the yard of the castle and later moved into the beautiful garden, to do some bridal pictures.

Next on the scheadule was the first look with the brides father. It was again a very emotional moment with a highly proud brides father und many happy tears.

After the absolutely wonderful ceremony, the wedding couple received congratulations, lots of hugs and tears from their loved ones. And after some drinks and tasty tapas, we did some group photos. The Castell de Tous is just perfect for a outdoor cocktail, as you will see.

As the light started getting a little bit more golden, we did a second couple shoot. As a wedding photographery in Barcelona, I usually recommend to do between 2-3 smaller couple shoots. There are basically three reasons for it. First, the light is different and so can be the weather. There is less risk of bad weather in it, if you have several small spots for the couple shoot. Second, the emotions are different before the ceremony than after a few glasses of champagne. And third, its just more relaxed for the bridal couple to do three times 20min than one time one hour.

At the end of the evening, shortly before the sunset, the light outside was very special again. So we went out and did 5 more minutes of couple photos. When it is that dark, you should use a speed light as a wedding photographer. I usually place the flash behind the couple and trigger it with a remote device. Like that I can create a magic effect that separates the bridal couple from the background. Like you can see in the following images:
